Russian Furniture Industry Summit

On June 28-29 the central congress event in Russia designed for representatives of furniture industry – the Russian Furniture Industry Summit - was held in St. Petersburg. It was organised by RESTEC Exhibition Company with the official support of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia AMEDORO, the Association of Furniture Enterprises of the North-West and in partnership with ZOW, the international exhibition of furniture fittings and components.

Topical business programme, participants and experts from a broad range of countries, face-to-face meetings and informal communication within professional community became the hallmarks of the Summit-2012. Over 150 heads and top managers of furniture companies from Russia, Belarus, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Bashkortostan Republic, Tatarstan Republic, Udmurt Republic, Serbia, the USA, Turkey and Finland took part in the Summit. 30 cities represented the Russian Federation at the Summit, including Blagoveschensk, Vologda, Volgodonsk, Voronezh, Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg, Moscow, Penza, Samara, St. Petersburg, Tolyatti, Tomsk, Tyumen and Cherepovets. Such companies as Allegro di Oro, Allegro-Concept, Almaz, ARISTO LLC, ASKONA, Glazov Furniture Factory, Grafskoye, Divo-mebel, DEFO, EUROHIM-1, Zarechye, INT, Interprint, Kristina, Maya, Melodia Sna, Olimp-mebel, Pervaya Mebelnaya Fabrika, Plaza, Romarty, Rehau, Sevzapmebel, Solo, Ufamebel, Elegia, Nolte Kuechen, etc. were among Russian participants of the Summit.

The first session of the Summit was devoted to facts and figures, estimates and prognosis for the Russian furniture market. The leading expert of “RBC. Market research” company Elena Bayeva presented her research dedicated to the features of consumer demand at the furniture market in 2012. Syndicated Research Manager at COMCON Evgeniya Filippova told about consumer preferences at the Russian furniture market. Janna Martynova from VVS company viewed all sides of foreign trade in furniture industry.

The central event of the Summit – a panel discussion “The WTO – new rules of the play: Competition vs. Cooperation. International and Russian experience”, consisted of various opinions voiced by the experts on the issue of integration of Russia into the global economy. General Director of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia AMEDORO, Andrey Radukhin, President of Guild of Marketing Experts Alexander Osvald, Export Promotion Advisor at Serbia Investment and Export Promotion Agency SIEPA, Anastasiya Akimova and other experts took part in the discussion.

Presence of Managing Director of Malaysian Furniture Promotion Council (Malaysia) Au Lek Chai, who told in detail about market of the Asian region, economic features of the region, and structure of furniture trade, deserves particular attention.

The session “Furniture retail: evolution of trade formats” stuck in memory of the attendees due to the bright performance of the President and Founder of JRM Sales and Management, Inc. (the USA) Joe Milevsky speaking on evolution of trade formats, and thanks to reports of the German experts from KARE Design and Premiumwerk company that demonstrated a format by Musterring which is new to the Russian market.

The most interesting report made on the second day of the Summit during the session called “Consumer” was the report of the expert from famous communications agency SPN Ogilvy, Marina Panfilova dedicated to “Effective modern types of consumer communication”. Market tendencies, changes in consumer behavior and marketing models, changes in aims and approaches to communication were raised in her presentation. Business cases of IKEA company supplemented the report.

The words of the leading expert in design and press secretary of HDH Association (Germany) Ursula Geismann opened the session “Design”, moderated by the founder of Lumiknows company Ekaterina Khramkova. Global tendencies in furniture industry, analysis of living quarters and trends in interior design were reflected in her report.

Informal part of the Summit was also eventful. Participants had a pleasant evening boat trip along the Neva river, where a trip to ZOW Turkey, the international exhibition of furniture fittings and components, was raffled off. Marketing Director of Pinskdrev company Lyudmila Galakhovskaya was one who drew the lucky lot.

Celebration of the 15th anniversary and ceremonial meeting of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia AMEDORO was held on June 27 in St. Petersburg and was confined to the Furniture Industry Summit.

The Russian Furniture Industry Summit 2013 will be held in St. Petersburg in June during wonderful period of the White Nights.
