“Based on official statistics, the Romanian furniture exports to Germany have been increased by 15% in 2010, compared to the previous year” – says Constantin Andrei, commercial counselor at the General Consulate of Romania in Bonn.

The positive changes were easy to observe at the Romanian National Pavilion during the imm cologne 2011, in the Hall 5.1, where 17 exporter manufactures based in Romania have shown their latest products. The visitors have met some traditional exporters to the German market, like Famos, Tehnoforestexport and Silvarom, and a group of relatively new names – Szél Mob, DIS, European Heritage, Amis Impex and Design-for-Life – have targeted the modern/rustic layer of the market with furniture made out of massive wood, with warmly painted finishing and unusual accessories. Two bigger chipboard furniture producers came to Köln with high hopes and solid chances to succeed: Rus Savitar from Timişoara and Fortis Mob from Ploieşti have been looking for contracts with large retail companies. The newcomers have invested in the last few years millions of euros in the latest automated technology, and also have developed new furniture lines to fit to the trends of the day. “We are using German components, we are working with German machinery and standards: I’m confident that we’ll have success with high quality offered at competitive prices” – declares Cristian Rusu, CEO and owner of Rus Savitar. Even if the position where the Romanian Pavilion was placed did not satisfied the organizer’s (the Romanian Furniture Manufacturers’ Association) expectations, the decision is already made: the visitors of imm cologne 2012 should be prepared for even more diversified Romanian furniture offer.
